Lagat 5k Amer. Record

INDIANAPOLIS - 2010 World Indoor 3,000m champion Bernard Lagat set the American record over 5,000m Friday night at the 2010 ExxonMobil Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway.

A two-time Olympic and three-time World Outdoor medalist, Lagat ran a strategic race and finished third in 12:54.12 to break the previous American record of 12:56.27 set by Dathan Ritzenhein last year. Chris Solinsky, the American record holder over 10,000m, finished sixth in a personal best 12:56.66, just outside the previous record. Imane Merga (ETH) won the race in 12:53.81 and 2008 World Indoor 3,000m champion Tariku Bekele (ETH) was second in 12:53.97.

Elsewhere, Chaunte Lowe, the new American record holder in the women's high jump, finished as the runner-up in Oslo to reigning World Indoor and Outdoor champion Blanka Vlasic. With almost identical series, Lowe was determined the runner-up with one miss at 2.01m/6-7 while Vlasic cleared that height on her first attempt. Both women had three misses at 2.03m/6-8.

Clement, Jones, Moore & Cantwell post wins

Two-time World Outdoor champion Kerron Clement won the men's 400m hurdles over 2005 World Outdoor champion Bershawn Jackson. Even coming off the turn, Clement was able to pull away from Jackson over the final 100m to win in 48.12 to Jackson's 48.25.

After disappointing performances in Deagu and Ostrava, two-time World Indoor champion Lolo Jones came back in a big way, winning the women's 100m hurdles in a season's best 12.66. Danielle Carruthers finished fourth in 12.74. In the women's 200m, LaShaunte'a Moore, fresh off a sub-11 100m race last week, won the half-lap event in a personal best 22.38, while two-time World Outdoor 100m bronze medalist Carmelita Jeter was the runner-up in 22.54.

Reigning World Indoor and Outdoor champion Christian Cantwell won the men's shot put with a heave of 21.31m/69-11. 2007 World Outdoor champion Reese Hoffa finished fourth with 20.69m/67-10.75, and two-time Olympic silver medalist Adam Nelson was seventh with 19.91m/65-4.

2010 World Indoor champion Debbie Dunn took third in the women's 400m, running a season's best 50.75 while 2009 World Outdoor 400m hurdles silver medalist Lashinda Demus set a personal best in the flat 400m placing fifth in 51.09.
